Kubo and the Two Strings (contains spoilers)

This weekend my family and I went to see “Kubo and the Two Strings” at the Penn Square Mall Movie Theatre. It was my Sister’s 10th birthday and she chose the worst movie playing (judging by the previews). We walked in, and the seats were divine. They were red leather seats that RECLINED!!! The movie started after the routine twenty minute ad sequence.

In the beginning of the movie, it was dark and quite ominous. The mother of Kubo was in the middle of the ocean, in a boat. I took attention to the detail of the clay landscape, and it was quite impressive. The waves were so intricate and realistic. As the movie went on, you learned more and more about Kubo, his family history, and why his Evil grandfather was on the search for his other eye. Kubo was given magical power by his mother in order to retrieve the armor needed to defeat his grandfather and his mother’s evil twin sisters.

As Kubo, his mother (disguised as the monkey charm Kubo carried as a young boy), and his father, who was previously cursed and turned into a beetle man, traveled across the land searching for the armor, Kubo slowly discovered how to control his magic and learned how to fight off the evil family members fighting for his eye.

I decided to rate this movie a 6/10 because there were good graphics, a good story line, and it was engaging, but it was quite different and honestly a tad weird. And that’s my review on “Kubo and the Two Strings”.
